First of all, when you have mild diarrhea and/or vomiting, you are losing not only water (free water) but also electrolytes, including sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, and magnesium. This loss also happens through sweating or spending hours in the heat with no water replacement.
But when water and electrolyte losses are high, you may experience disorientation, tiredness, and a very dry mouth sensation. Your skin becomes dry as well, and if you press it between your fingers, it does not return to its original elastic characteristic. When this happens, it probably means you are in danger of dehydration, which could be caused by lower sodium and potassium levels, leading to risks such as heart arrhythmias or kidney damage, including failure.
So again, as always recommended, if you start to feel some of these signs or symptoms, call a physician to be attended to as soon as possible. This action could save your life. In a future recommendation post, I will give you some aspects of respiratory infections to be aware of. Y que viva Mexico cab…!!
